Rules
Rules decide whether a configuration is allowed to generate or download manufacturing files.
What rules are for
Use rules to encode shop knowledge that is not a simple min/max:
- Pitch cannot exceed diameter
- Guard length must cover the screw plus overlap
- A material option is unavailable above a size
- Sheet-metal thickness is only valid for listed gauges
If a rule fails, the published page should say so in plain language. Do not offer STEP on a failing configuration.
Authoring
Open the product’s rules editor in the App. Each rule has a condition and a message. Keep messages something sales can read to a buyer on a call.
Fail closed
Generate and export are eligibility-gated. A missing rule engine result, a failed Fusion job, or a process class that cannot produce the required file must not show a download.
Testing a rule
- Publish or preview the configurator.
- Enter a known-bad size from a real RFQ.
- Confirm the block message appears.
- Enter a known-good size and confirm generate is offered.
